89-Year-Old Man Dies After Arrest for 'Biting' Incident in Japan
'Biting' Incident and Arrest
On April 5, around 1:30 PM, police in Kawanishi City, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, received a report of an elderly man arguing with and biting a woman at a local cherry blossom and rapeseed flower viewing spot. Responding officers arrested an 89-year-old unemployed man on the scene. The victim, a woman in her 40s, stated she was bitten on her right arm. At the time of arrest, the man appeared calm but denied the allegations and sat down when officers attempted to escort him.
Post-Arrest Collapse and Death
Due to the man's advanced age, police transported him to the patrol car on a stretcher. However, immediately after being placed in the vehicle, the man's complexion worsened, and he became unresponsive to officers' calls. He was promptly taken to a hospital by ambulance but died approximately 1.5 hours later. Police stated that there was no physical restraint during the arrest and maintain that their response was not inappropriate. A forensic autopsy is currently being conducted to determine any pre-existing medical conditions and the exact cause of death.
