The car has been in the same spot since at least May 2011, with its tires removed and body tilted, left abandoned. Niigata City confirmed that the vehicle has been illegally parked for approximately 15 years.
City Files Damages Lawsuit
Niigata City, which owns the sports facility, has filed a lawsuit against the car owner. The city is demanding the return of the land and approximately 540,000 yen in parking fees for the 15-year period as compensation for damages. Although the parking lot is typically free to use, the city calculated the compensation amount based on the monthly fee of 3,000 yen at nearby paid parking lots.
Car Owner's Whereabouts Unknown
While vehicle registration information confirmed that the owner had previously resided in Niigata City, their current whereabouts remain unknown. This situation is expected to pose challenges in proceeding with the lawsuit.
