Bear Sighting in Fukushima Residential Area, Four Injured
On June 2nd, a bear appeared in a residential area of Fukushima City, threatening residents and causing injuries. Surveillance camera footage captured the bear chasing a man. As a result of the bear's attack, four individuals, ranging in age from their 20s to 80s, sustained injuries.
Bear Hides in Factory, Emergency Hunt Prolonged
After the attacks, the bear entered and hid in a nearby factory. Fukushima City immediately decided on an emergency hunt to capture the animal. Despite attempts to capture it using tranquilizer guns and traps, more than 20 hours have passed, and the bear is still believed to be inside the factory. The police are restricting local traffic with patrol cars.
Widespread Impact on Local Community
The appearance and prolonged presence of the bear have caused significant disruption to the local community. Nearby elementary and junior high schools have been closed, and the factory where the bear is believed to be hiding has suspended operations. Residents are on edge, and Fukushima Prefectural Police continue to maintain a heightened state of alert.
