China's Digital Innovation in Shipbuilding

China, as the world's largest shipbuilding nation, is accelerating the digital transformation of its shipbuilding industry in alignment with the '15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030)'. This initiative is a core strategy to upgrade traditional industries and enhance global competitiveness. The country is particularly strengthening its capacity for building complex vessels such as LNG carriers, aircraft carriers, and large cruise ships. Crucially, Digital Design Platforms (DSP) are being extensively utilized in the construction of these advanced ships.

The Adora Flora City exemplifies this digital transformation. This vessel was floated 8 months earlier than its predecessor, the Adora Magic City, with interior finishing also progressing ahead of schedule. This accelerated timeline is attributed to the comprehensive management of production efficiency and reduction of errors through DSP, from design to installation. Notably, the Adora Flora City requires over 4,700km of electric cables, ten times more than regular ships. The DSP precisely designs the specifications and installation routes for all cables in advance, maximizing on-site operational efficiency.

AI-Driven Logistics and Expanding Market Share

Chinese shipyards are also leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based automation systems for logistics management to further improve efficiency. In warehouses, AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles) and robots automatically stack materials, and AI algorithms optimize storage and transportation paths based on the First-In, First-Out (FIFO) principle. These digital management systems contribute to reducing rework rates and material waste, thereby shortening production time. As a result, China has maintained its position as the world's top shipbuilder for 16 consecutive years, securing a dominant market share in 2025 with 69% of new orders, 66.8% of hand-held orders, and 56.1% of shipbuilding completions. These technological innovations are poised to play a crucial role in enabling China's shipbuilding industry to navigate global market uncertainties and secure future growth.
