Cruise Ship Arrives in Tenerife, Disembarkation Begins
A cruise ship with a suspected hantavirus outbreak arrived at Tenerife Island in the Canary Islands, a Spanish territory, on May 10. All passengers and crew members, including one Japanese national, underwent health checks by experts before gradually disembarking. Following disembarkation, they are reportedly taking flights back to their home countries.
Repatriation of Passengers and Crew Underway
Passengers and crew who disembarked due to the suspected hantavirus situation are currently traveling by air to their respective nations. Measures are being implemented to prevent further spread of the infection and ensure individual health. It is anticipated that various governments and relevant agencies will take additional actions for the repatriated individuals. Hantavirus is known to be primarily transmitted by rodents and can cause symptoms such as fever and hemorrhaging in humans.
