Old Dominion University Shooting, FBI Investigates as 'Terrorist Act'
A shooting at Old Dominion University in Virginia, USA, has resulted in one fatality and two injuries. The incident occurred on Thursday, and the suspect was apprehended at the scene. The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced that it has classified the incident as a terrorist act and launched a full-scale investigation.
Suspect Identified; ROTC Students Praised for Heroism
Special Agent Dominique Evans of the FBI Norfolk field office confirmed the identity of the shooting suspect as Mohamed Zallo during a press conference. Zallo was a former member of the Army National Guard and had a prior conviction in 2016 for attempting to provide material support to the Islamic State (IS). According to Agent Evans, the suspect shouted "Allahu Akbar" and attempted a "terrorist act" before opening fire. He was subdued and died inside a university classroom by students affiliated with the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC). Agent Evans praised the ROTC students' "extreme courage and valor" for preventing further casualties.
