BYD Enters Humanoid Robot Market, Plans Sales via Dealer Network
BYD Officially Enters Humanoid Robot Market
Chinese automaker BYD has officially confirmed its entry into the humanoid robot market, becoming the latest Chinese car manufacturer to venture into this field. BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li stated in a recent interview that the company is actively developing humanoid robots.
Li mentioned that if these robots are to enter household scenarios in the future, BYD intends to sell them through its extensive auto dealer network. She highlighted that the core competitiveness for robots lies in manufacturing capabilities as well as software and hardware strengths, noting that auto-related AI capabilities share a common origin with robot technology, giving automakers a natural advantage.
Plans for Open Robot Platform and Commercialization
BYD also plans to build an open robot platform that can both produce BYD's in-house developed robots and accommodate products developed in cooperation with other companies. Li emphasized that automotive software is complex, making its porting into robots very easy for them. She also expressed belief that China is expected to take the lead in realizing the commercialization of robots.
Regarding the current market landscape, Li observed that Chinese robots lack a developed "brain," while US robots face issues with underdeveloped "limbs." This strategic move by BYD into the robotics sector is drawing significant attention.
