US-Iran Ceasefire Nears Collapse Following Iranian Attacks and US Retaliation

The ceasefire between the United States and Iran is reportedly on the brink of collapse. Iran launched missiles and drones at US troops in Kuwait, prompting the US to bomb Iranian radar and drone sites, claiming self-defense. This escalation has caused global oil prices to inch up again. Iran is now threatening to cut off negotiations entirely after Israel targeted Southern Lebanon once more.

Trump's Intervention and Sustained Tensions

President Donald Trump told ABC News that he "couldn't care less" if talks with Iran collapsed, stating, "If they're over, they're over." However, ABC News has learned that the President later spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to try and halt the bombing in Southern Lebanon in an effort to keep the Iranians at the negotiating table. Despite this, Netanyahu insists Israel will not leave Southern Lebanon. Trump later described the day's events as "a little glitch" he "turned around very quickly." Tonight, the Strait of Hormuz remains closed, and gas prices in the US are hovering at $4.27 a gallon, putting pressure on President Trump to negotiate a deal with Iran.
