Typhoon No. 6 Approaches Okinawa and Emergency Measures

Strong Typhoon No. 6 is approaching the Okinawa and Amami regions, leading to emergency situations across a wide area. A storm warning was issued for Miyakojima, Okinawa Prefecture, around 1 AM today, and evacuation orders were given in Nanjo City on the main island. The Japan Meteorological Agency has called for nationwide vigilance, recalling past typhoons with similar paths that caused record-breaking heavy rainfall. Specifically, with a front forming to the east of Typhoon No. 6 and warm, moist air flowing in, front activity is intensifying, and heavy rainfall is expected. The Japan Meteorological Agency has warned that total precipitation could exceed 200-300mm.

Mass Flight Cancellations and Tourist Disruption

At Naha Airport, due to the approach of Typhoon No. 6, All Nippon Airways (ANA) and Japan Airlines (JAL) have canceled all flights arriving at or departing from Okinawa today. This is expected to affect over 20,000 passengers, with long queues forming at the airport for flight rebooking. Tourists expressed their bewilderment at the sudden cancellations, facing significant disruptions to their return plans. In Miyakojima, preparations for the typhoon have been underway since yesterday morning. Fishermen are securing their boats with ropes to the pier, and shops are installing windbreak nets over signs and outdoor facilities to minimize damage.
