Typhoon 'Jangmi' Approaches, Causing Concerns
Okinawa, Japan's southernmost region, is bracing itself for Typhoon Jangmi on Monday, with expectations of severe rain and strong winds. The Japan Meteorological Agency announced on Monday that the island faces high risks of landslides and high waves. The tropical storm is predicted to move to the Amami region on Tuesday and heavy rain is expected in the coastal Kanto region, including Tokyo, on Wednesday.
Flight Cancellations and Evacuation Orders
More than 400 flights have been cancelled due to the storm. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, Japan experienced 27 typhoons in 2025, which was higher than the average. Authorities have issued evacuation orders for elderly people and others who may need more time to evacuate in parts of both the Okinawa and Amami regions.
