SAIC to Build First EU Plant in Spain
China's SAIC Motor intends to establish a car factory in Spain's northwestern region of Galicia, marking its first production facility within the European Union. The regional government announced the plans on Monday, stating that Galicia's leader, Alfonso Rueda, has granted strategic priority to the project. The initial investment is estimated to be around β¬200 million (US$232 million).
Central Government Approval Pending
The project, which includes a logistics hub, still requires the Spanish central government's approval for foreign direct investment. This move signifies SAIC Motor's strategic expansion into the European market, aiming to bolster its presence and production capabilities within the continent.
