Israel Struggles to Counter Hezbollah Drone Attacks, Tactical Efforts Limited
Hezbollah Drone Attacks and Israeli Predicament
More than 15 explosive-laden drones launched by the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah detonated in Israeli territory, primarily military areas, on May 26. These attacks have posed ongoing challenges for the Israeli military in responding to the drone threat. Israel's Channel 12 reported that unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are becoming an increasing concern for authorities. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has described UAVs as a 'serious threat' and urged the military to find solutions.
Strengthening Defense Systems and Their Limitations
The Israeli military is expediting the supply of defensive systems and equipment for troops deployed in Lebanon and along the border, collaborating with European suppliers. Additionally, over 250,000 square meters of protective netting have been deployed, with another 280,000 square meters being procured. The military's technology division is also researching new solutions to counter UAVs. However, Israeli security officials admit that the effectiveness of these efforts remains limited, and a definitive solution has yet to be found. Israel has intensified its attacks in Lebanon since March 2, resulting in approximately 3,200 deaths and over 1.6 million displacements.
