SoftBank Donates to Trump Foundation Amid Increased US AI Investment

SoftBank Group has reportedly donated $50 million (approximately 76 billion KRW) to the construction of former U.S. President Donald Trump's 'Presidential Library' and related foundations. This move is seen as SoftBank, which is accelerating its investments in artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure in the U.S., seeking to further strengthen its relationship with the former president. The Nikkei business daily reported this, citing the U.S. political media outlet Politico.

Pope Calls for AI 'Disarmament,' Emphasizes Human Dignity

Separately, Pope Leo XIV addressed the safeguarding of human dignity in the age of artificial intelligence (AI) in his first encyclical, 《Magnifica humanitas》. The Pope called for the 'disarmament' of AI, emphasizing that humanity must be protected from the dangers and domination posed by AI. He stated that AI technology needs to become more 'humanized' and should be free from monopolistic control, not used as a means for geopolitical or commercial gain. The Pope warned that AI could accelerate conflicts and make them more ruthless, rather than eliminating their inhumanity, and noted the risk that the use of computer technology in warfare could lead to moral oversight.
