Russia Calls for UN Security Council Meeting After Ukrainian Drone Strike on Dormitory
School Dormitory Hit in Luhansk Region, Russia's Response
Russia has requested an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council after a Ukrainian drone strike hit a college dormitory in Starobilsk, located in the Russian-controlled Luhansk region. Russian officials stated that approximately ten Ukrainian drones, reportedly launched from the Kharkiv region, attacked the college early Friday morning. Most of the dormitory was destroyed in the strike, and rescue operations are ongoing. Russia claims that at least six people were killed and dozens injured in the attack.
Russia Labels Attack 'Act of Terror' and Threatens Retaliation
The Russian side has called the strike an 'act of terror.' Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described it as a 'monstrous crime committed by Kyiv,' while Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said it was a deliberate attack against children. Russia's President Vladimir Putin stated that the strike was not accidental and that the military is prepared to retaliate. Some analysts suggest the attack was a political and military provocation aimed at making Russia act even more aggressively in the future.
