Hong Kong authorities have issued four HK$3,000 (US$382) fines during the first two days of an expanded ban on alternative smoking products. This ban includes e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products. Manny Lam Man-chung, head of the Tobacco and Alcohol Control Office, stated that authorities have intensified enforcement and public education efforts, particularly in commercial districts.
Assurance Against Arbitrary Body Searches
Authorities have reassured the public that inspectors will not conduct arbitrary body searches to enforce the new law. This aims to alleviate public concerns and encourage compliance. Lam Man-chung emphasized that alongside enforcement, public education is being conducted to raise awareness of the new regulations.
