Army to Enhance Drone Forces and Introduce AI Systems
The South Korean Army announced its intention to expand its drone capabilities and operational capacity in response to the changing nature of modern warfare and a shortage of military personnel. The Army also plans to strengthen its frontline scientific alert systems using artificial intelligence (AI) technology. General Kim Gyu-ha, the Army Chief of Staff, outlined these initiatives during a policy briefing for journalists at the Army Headquarters in Gyeryongdae, South Chungcheong Province, on the 29th.
Emphasizing the Importance of Drones
During the briefing, General Kim Gyu-ha stressed the critical role of drones, stating that "drones will become a concept similar to personal firearms in the future." He identified surveillance, reconnaissance, and strike operations as key purposes for drones, indicating that drones will be utilized as essential combat assets rather than mere auxiliary tools in future warfare.
