American Woman Missing at Sea in Bahamas After Falling Overboard
Urgent Search Underway for Missing Woman
An urgent search and rescue operation is underway in the Bahamas for Lynette Hooker, a 56-year-old Michigan woman. Lynette Hooker vanished at sea after reportedly falling off a small boat. Authorities state that Lynette Hooker and her husband, Brian Hooker, left the Abaco Inn on Elbow Cay around 7:30 PM on Saturday.
Details of Disappearance and Rescue Efforts
The couple was riding an 8.5-foot hard-bottom dinghy back to their yacht. Brian Hooker told police that due to poor weather, Lynette Hooker fell overboard and was swept away by strong currents, taking the boat's engine key with her. With the boat's engine shut off, her husband had to paddle back to shore to get help, reporting her disappearance around 4 AM the next day. For hours yesterday, authorities, joined by the Coast Guard, combed the waters for Lynette Hooker. It remains unclear if she was wearing a life vest at the time. The State Department cautions Americans visiting the Bahamas that boating is not well regulated there, urging visitors to always follow local weather and marine alerts.
