Husband of Woman Missing in Bahamas Released After Police Interview
Disappearance and Husband's Account
Brian Hooker, husband of Lynette Hooker who disappeared at sea in the Bahamas, was released after being questioned by police. He claims his wife fell overboard from their dinghy and was swept away by rough waves. In a phone call to a friend, Brian explained that the wind 'blew us apart so fast that I think she tried to swim back to the sailboat, but the waves were three foot.' He added that he threw her a flotation cushion but couldn't tell if she got it.
Family's Doubts and Past Incidents
Lynette's mother, Darlene Hamlett, and daughter, Karli Aylesworth, express doubts about Brian's account. Hamlett emphasized that Lynette was a 'safety nut' in the water, proficient in swimming and scuba diving, experienced with boats, and constantly monitored weather conditions. Karli also stated that her mother wouldn't simply fall off a boat and described their relationship as 'not the healthiest.' Documents obtained by ABC News affiliate WZZM detail a 2005 incident where Brian was accused of putting his hands around his young daughter's neck and choking her, though he was later acquitted by a jury. In 2015, both Lynette and Brian accused each other of assault, with Brian reportedly having a bloody nose, but neither faced charges.
Unanswered Questions and Call for Truth
Brian's claim of taking eight hours to travel from Elbow Cay to Marsh Harbour raised questions, as investigators believe the journey should have taken about 20 minutes given the weather conditions at the time. His attorney stated that Brian feels unfairly targeted as a suspect and believes police should focus on actively searching for his wife. Lynette's mother insists there are more questions than answers and hopes 'the truth will come out' through a thorough investigation.
