Mexico Criticizes Immigrant Detention Facility Deaths
Mexican authorities have strongly criticized the recent deaths of four Mexican nationals at an ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) facility in California. Vanessa Calva Ruiz, Mexican Director General of Consular Protection and Strategic Planning, announced at a press conference in Los Angeles on March 30 that Jose Guadalupe, a Mexican national, died last week at the Adelanto Processing Center in San Bernardino. The facility is operated by the GEO Group Corporation. The cause of death is yet to be determined.
'Recurrent Deaths Absolutely Unacceptable'
Director Vanessa Calva Ruiz stated that four Mexican nationals have died, apparently due to medical complications, at the Adelanto ICE facility alone. She emphasized that the recurrence and frequency of these deaths are "absolutely unacceptable." Ruiz asserted that these deaths reveal systemic failures, operational deficiencies, and possible negligence. Gloria Ramos, daughter of the deceased Jose Guadalupe Ramos, also spoke at the press conference, saying that what happened to her father was "very inhumane" and that her family and she deserve to know the truth. She expressed a desire for justice for her father and for all families who have experienced similar situations.
