Palestine Action Activists Speak Out on Prison Experience and Medical Neglect
Suffering and Health Complications in Prison
Palestine Action hunger strikers have for the first time spoken about their experiences since their release from prison. These activists are members of the Filton 24 case, who were arrested and remanded in prison in 2024 for breaking into a UK site of an Israeli arms company. They described being subjected to confinement, assault, and unhygienic conditions, and being denied basic electrolytes and vitamins while in prison. Heba Muraisi specifically mentioned suffering from neurological issues and severe hair loss, stating she cannot walk long distances and is still recovering from her ordeal.
Critique of Counter-Terrorism Powers and Planned Legal Action
The activists criticized what they call the weaponization of counter-terrorism powers by the UK government. This included attempts to proscribe Palestine Action as a terrorist group under UK terror law, which was eventually ruled unlawful by the High Court. Heba Muraisi explained that the treatment inside prison worsened significantly after the unlawful proscription took place, implying it gave the authorities a 'reason' to treat them poorly. They are currently working with lawyers to take legal action against the prisons for what they say was medical neglect, a claim which the UK Ministry of Justice has denied.
