Achievements in Prosecutorial Reform and Future Tasks

Jeong Cheong-rae, Chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea, announced on March 22 that the bills to establish the Public Prosecution Agency and Serious Crime Investigation Agency, passed by the National Assembly, mark a "significant step towards the historic duty and task of prosecutorial reform, which is the complete separation of investigation and indictment." During a high-level party-government consultation meeting, Chairman Jeong emphasized that "the monopolistic power of the prosecution, which has reigned supreme for the past 78 years, will fade into history." He attributed this achievement to "the public's fervent desire for prosecutorial reform and the strong will of President Lee Jae-myung," and praised the "one-team spirit" of the party, government, and presidential office.

Discussions on Public Livelihoods and Balanced Regional Development

Chairman Jeong stated that there is "much more to be done, including the completion of prosecutorial reform," urging to "raise the two flags of public livelihoods and reform and advance with one heart and mind towards national great leap." Regarding the supplementary budget bill for responding to the Middle East situation, he described it as "like an oxygen mask" and promised to "push for the supplementary budget at the fastest pace in history as soon as the government's proposal is submitted to the National Assembly." Concerning the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City, set to launch on July 1, he explained that it would become the heart of balanced national development through 20 trillion won in financial support over four years and powerful special provisions, adding that all policy efforts would be concentrated to ensure a smooth integration.
