Actor Lee Jae-ryong has been referred to the prosecution without detention on charges of drunk driving, failing to take action after an accident, and obstructing a breathalyzer test. Seoul Gangnam Police Station stated that Lee was charged with drunk driving, hit-and-run, and interfering with alcohol measurement. Lee was involved in an accident on March 6, around 11 PM, near Cheongdam Station in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, where he crashed into a median barrier while driving under the influence. After the accident, he returned home and allegedly consumed more alcohol with acquaintances at a restaurant before being apprehended by the police. At the time of his arrest, his blood alcohol level was at a license suspension level.

During the police investigation, Lee Jae-ryong stated that he drank four shots of soju at a restaurant before the accident. However, his measured blood alcohol concentration indicated a license suspension level, leading to suspicions that he might have consumed additional alcohol at a colleague's officetel immediately before the accident. The police have secured CCTV footage of Lee's movements before and after the incident and are cross-referencing it with his statements to determine the precise timing of his alcohol consumption and his blood alcohol level at the time of the accident. The act of 'alcohol dodging,' which involves consuming more alcohol after an accident to evade accurate breathalyzer results, is punishable under the Kim Ho-joong Prevention Act as an obstruction of an alcohol test.
