Multiple suicide attacks in Maiduguri, northeastern Nigeria, killed at least 23 people and wounded over 100 others. These blasts followed an earlier attack on a military post.
Suicide Bombings Rock Maiduguri
Multiple explosions, attributed to suspected suicide bombers, struck the northeastern Nigerian city of Maiduguri on Monday evening. Police reported on Tuesday that at least 23 people were killed and more than 100 others were wounded in these attacks. The three blasts occurred shortly after an assault on a military post that took place overnight from Sunday to Monday, which authorities have blamed on suspected jihadists.
Escalation of Violence in the Region
These recent suicide attacks, combined with the earlier assault on a military position and a mosque bombing in December, have disrupted the peaceful state of the Maiduguri area. The succession of these incidents raises significant concerns about the deteriorating security situation in the region.
