Multiple Blasts Rock Maiduguri

At least 23 people were killed and more than 100 were injured after a series of bombings in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State in northeastern Nigeria. Police investigations revealed that the incidents were carried out by suspected suicide bombers. The first blast went off at a post office in the city center, immediately followed by another at a popular Monday market nearby. Later, during the early evening, two more blasts hit the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital and another struck the eastern neighborhood of Kalaeri.

Governor Condemns 'Barbaric' Attack, Links to Military Operations

Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum condemned the attack, calling it 'barbaric'. He further suggested that the recent surge in attacks might be linked to intensified military operations in the Sambisa Forest, a known jihadi stronghold. Borno State Police stated that security operatives and emergency responders were deployed following reports of the blasts. They also advised residents to remain calm and avoid the areas while assessments continued. These attacks occurred after the Nigerian military announced that security forces had repelled assaults by suspected Islamist insurgents on the outskirts of Maiduguri in the early hours of Monday.
