This comes two days after he went into seclusion, even turning off his mobile phone. In a statement, Chairman Lee apologized for causing confusion and concern, stating that he decided to resume his duties after Chairman Jang Dong-hyeok promised him full authority over the nominations. The day before, Chairman Jang had publicly requested Lee's return via social media, urging him to complete the 'innovative nomination' process. A late-night meeting in Gyeonggi Province then took place, and Lee was reportedly persuaded to change his mind. Speaking with YTN, Lee emphasized that having received full authority, he would take all responsibility and push forward with 'innovative nominations' at an accelerated pace.
Additional Public Offering for Seoul Mayor and Oh Se-hoon's Undecided Participation
As his first official action, Chairman Lee Jung-hyun formalized an additional public offering for Seoul mayor candidates. Lee specifically mentioned Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, urging him to apply, calling him a valuable asset and an important leader of the party. He added that while re-offering a candidacy is not common, he would patiently await Mayor Oh's participation with earnest hope. However, Mayor Oh Se-hoon's camp, while respecting the Nomination Committee's schedule, maintained that the formation of an innovative election committee (혁신 선대위) is a priority. Mayor Oh's side believes that even if immediate election committee formation is difficult, a proactive statement from the leadership is necessary.
