Delhi Hotel Fire Tragedy: Guests Jump for Survival

A devastating fire broke out at a hotel-cum-guest house in Malviya Nagar, Delhi, resulting in the deaths of at least 21 people and the rescue of over 40 others. Local residents described chaotic scenes as flames rapidly spread through the building, forcing several occupants to jump from upper floors in a desperate bid to survive. Initially, only smoke was observed, but the fire quickly escalated, leading to many suffering from smoke inhalation.

Locals' Swift Response and Rescue Efforts

Local residents played a crucial role in the immediate rescue efforts. An eyewitness stated that they brought mattresses from nearby shops and placed them on the ground to cushion the fall of those trapped inside. This quick thinking allowed occupants who jumped from the first floor to be safely rescued. Locals also helped transport unconscious individuals to the hospital before firefighters and ambulances arrived. However, one woman who jumped from the third floor tragically died at the scene.

Investigation into Fire Cause and Casualties

The fire, believed to be caused by a short circuit, started on the ground floor around 8:50 AM and rapidly ascended through the building. Fire authorities and police quickly arrived, but a single entry point complicated operations. Approximately 60-70 people were trapped inside and subsequently transported to hospitals via ambulances. Most casualties were unconscious due to smoke inhalation. The hospital's proximity allowed for a rapid ambulance response. Further investigations into the cause of the incident are ongoing.
