Singapore Senior Minister Tours Shanghai Robotics Technology
Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore visited a Shanghai robotics incubator on May 21 to inspect China's advanced humanoid robot technology. He interacted with a robot made by Unitree Robotics and experienced tea service and health checks provided by other AI-powered robots. This visit highlighted the potential for widespread deployment of robotics technology in Singapore.
Chinese Robotics Expansion into Singapore and Asian Markets
Singapore is actively pursuing its own push towards robotics and physical AI, and this visit signals an opportunity to leverage China's expertise and dominance in the field. Notably, eight firms, including Unitree, are set to conduct large-scale robot trials at Punggol Digital District in Singapore in 2026. Furthermore, the Shanghai robotics incubator plans to establish a branch office in Singapore as early as October 2026, with another in Hong Kong by June 2026, and an overseas office in Malaysia, to cater to the immense market demand for humanoid robots in Asia and Southeast Asia.
