Nepal's Ruling Party Head Visits India Amid Border Row
Meeting with India's BJP Leadership
Rabi Lamichhane, President of Nepal's ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), met with Nitin Nabin, National President of India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), in New Delhi. This meeting is part of the BJP's 'Know BJP' initiative, aiming to strengthen cross-border political relations. Lamichhane's visit is expected to initiate party-to-party engagements between the RSP and the BJP.
Discussions on Key Issues and Border Disputes
The Nepalese delegation, led by Lamichhane, is also scheduled to hold talks with India's External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday. The discussions are expected to cover several priorities that Nepal's new leadership wishes to pursue with India. A particularly sensitive topic will be the strategically important border dispute involving Lipulekh Pass, Kalapani, and Limpiyadhura areas. This issue has recently returned to public attention following remarks by Nepal's Prime Minister, although Lamichhane's visit was planned before the controversy erupted.
