Israeli Strikes Continue in Southern Lebanon, Civilians Affected
Continued Israeli Airstrikes and Civilian Evacuations in Southern Lebanon
Israeli forces continue their airstrikes across southern Lebanon. As a result, the entire district of Nabatiyeh has been evacuated once again. This area, home to over 100,000 people, had also been evacuated just days prior. Numerous villages have been attacked, and a mosque in Jezzine was destroyed. Two people were killed in Duweir.
Civilian Casualties and Diplomatic Standoff
A young student from the village of Qleia, a Christian village in southern Lebanon that is rarely targeted, was killed yesterday in a drone strike. The student, a science major, had traveled to Beirut for exams at the Lebanese University. When exams were postponed, she was returning home with her father and 12-year-old brother when they were killed by an Israeli drone strike. This incident highlights the significant civilian toll of the conflict. U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly warned Netanyahu against targeting Beirut, fearing it would undermine diplomatic efforts. However, Israel maintains its right to self-defense against Hezbollah's rocket attacks into northern Israel, creating a complex deadlock in negotiations between the U.S. and Iran regarding Lebanon's inclusion in a ceasefire.
