Toyota Unveils Humanoid Development Strategy, Targets In-House Factory Implementation
Toyota's Humanoid Development Vision
Toyota Motor Corporation recently unveiled its humanoid robot development strategy. The company defines humanoids not merely as convenient tools but as human partners, pursuing a 'multi-pathway' development approach to adapt to rapidly changing times. Practical implementation is planned to begin in Toyota's own factories.
This information was disclosed by Tomohiro Nomi, Research Leader for Humanoid Robot Research at Toyota Motor Corporation's Future Creation Center, during the 'Humanoids Summit Tokyo 2026'. Toyota has been developing robots for over 20 years since the 2005 Aichi Expo, aiming for partner robots that support human activities and coexist with people. They have developed various application-specific robots, including personal mobility and medical support robots.
Three Core Research and Development Pillars
Toyota is approaching humanoid research and development through three core pillars: physicality, practicality, and sociability. This multifaceted approach focuses on ensuring humanoids possess physical capabilities, function usefully in real-world environments, and interact with humans as members of society.
