Israeli Forces Capture Beaufort Castle in Lebanon, Advancing Deeper into Southern Border
Israeli Forces Recapture Key Lebanese Stronghold, Beaufort Castle
Israeli forces have recently captured Beaufort Castle in southern Lebanon. This historic site, built by French Crusaders over a thousand years ago, offers a strategically crucial position with views across much of southern Lebanon. Middle East correspondent Adam Parsons reported that both Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Secretary Israel Katz supported the operation. Beaufort Castle was previously captured by Israeli forces 44 years ago and then vacated 26 years ago, making its recapture a significant symbolic act. The Israeli military further emphasized this symbolism by raising the Israeli flag over the castle and distributing pictures.
Israel Intensifies Push into Lebanon, Raising Escalation Concerns
This capture of Beaufort Castle signifies a deeper Israeli advance into Lebanese territory. Just days after confirming their movement beyond the Litani River, Israeli forces are now warning residents south of the Zahrani River to evacuate, indicating a widening combat zone. The Zahrani River is approximately six miles further north than the Litani. While Israel claims its actions are a response to Hezbollah drone and rocket attacks, some suggest that with a potential peace deal between the United States and Iran looming, Israel aims to seize as much land as possible to establish facts on the ground. This strategy is believed to secure a more favorable position for Israel should a ceasefire come into effect.
