US Airstrikes on Iranian Drone Facilities and IRGC Retaliation
Despite ongoing negotiations between the United States and Iran to end the war, tensions escalated with two engagements within 48 hours since May 25. On the morning of May 28, US forces launched an airstrike targeting Iranian drone facilities in the vicinity of Bandar Abbas. In retaliation, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) conducted a retaliatory strike against a US air base stationed in Kuwait.
Kuwaiti Air Defense Intercepts Missiles and Drones
Kuwaiti military announced that its air defense systems intercepted hostile missiles and drones. The Chief of Staff of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces stated that explosions heard by the public were due to the air defense systems intercepting enemy targets. The open-source intelligence account OSINTtechnical on X indicated that flight trajectories suggested the Ali Al Salem Air Base was the target, but missiles were intercepted by locally deployed Patriot air defense systems over Al Jahra.
