Japan and Finland Explore Next-Gen UAV Technology Cooperation
The Japan UAS Industrial Development Association (JUIDA) participated in the 'Finland-Japan Critical Technology Seminar' hosted by the Embassy of Finland in Japan, discussing the social implementation of next-generation UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) systems. The seminar focused on quantum computing and next-generation UAVs as critical technologies, with stakeholders from industry, government, and academia in both Japan and Finland exploring cooperation opportunities to build a reliable industrial ecosystem. Sakari Puisto, Finland's Minister of Economic Affairs and Employment, and Toshiro Ino, Japan's Vice Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, expressed their hopes for technological collaboration between the two nations.
Finland's Drone Strategy and Japan's Contributions
During the UAV session, Finland outlined its national strategy to become a leading drone nation by 2030. Finland plans to leverage cybersecurity, 6G communication, and autonomous operation in extreme environments for civilian applications such as forest management monitoring and smart logistics. Kakuya Iwata, JUIDA's Executive Director, presented on Japan's unmanned aircraft industry activities, including safety guideline development, disaster relief efforts, and industrial promotion initiatives. A panel discussion shared Japanese civilian use cases like disaster relief logistics and infrastructure inspection, exploring the potential for combining Finland's robust technology with Japan's manufacturing expertise and operational know-how in logistics and disaster prevention.
