Revised Disaster Weather Information from the 28th: New Evacuation Guidelines
Introduction of New Disaster Weather Information
Japan is implementing a major overhaul of its disaster weather information system, including heavy rain warnings, starting from the 28th. The new system will combine existing warning names with numbers from 1 to 5. This aims to make evacuation information more intuitive in disaster situations and enable residents to respond quickly. Given that this information is crucial for saving lives, a precise understanding of the changes is essential.
New Evacuation Guidelines: Levels 4 and 5
The revised information is linked to alert levels issued by local governments. Specifically, Level 5 is a 'special warning', indicating a high possibility that a disaster has already occurred, and movement to evacuation shelters might be dangerous. At this stage, individuals should take life-saving actions, such as evacuating to higher floors within their homes. Level 4 is a 'danger warning', emphasizing the need to promptly follow local government evacuation orders and move away from dangerous locations like cliffs or riverbanks. Even without a direct evacuation order from the local government, individuals should evacuate to a safe place if they perceive danger.
