Kurihara is accused of intentionally burning charcoal in a brazier inside their home earlier this month, causing his 61-year-old wife, Mieko, to die from carbon monoxide poisoning. On the 11th of this month, Kurihara reported to the police that his wife was dead. Upon arrival at the scene, police and firefighters discovered Mieko lying in the living room of their home and confirmed her death on site.
