Hong Kong Emphasizes Contributions to China's Commercial and Deep Space Exploration Industries
Hong Kong's Contribution to the Commercial Space Industry
Chuk Tat-kuen, Chairman of the Hong Kong Aerospace Technology Industry Alliance, stated that Hong Kong can contribute to China's commercial space industry in two main areas. The first involves cooperation with companies in areas such as commercial space launches, satellite management, and satellite data processing. As commercial space is identified as a crucial future industry in the national 14th Five-Year Plan, Hong Kong companies are expected to have more opportunities to participate. Commercial funding methods, including corporate joint ventures and privatization of enterprises, could be pursued.
Role in Deep Space Exploration and Communication Technology
The second area is deep space exploration, encompassing missions led by the China National Space Administration, such as space stations, crewed spaceflights, and lunar and Mars exploration. Chuk Tat-kuen emphasized that it would be beneficial for Hong Kong to participate more in both areas. Additionally, Legislative Council member Wong Yung-wai (Industrial Sector 1) noted that Hong Kong can leverage its financial resource advantages to contribute to fundraising for the space industry. He added that Hong Kong's robust communication technologies, such as quantum cryptography communication, will also be a significant strength for international connections. While past fragmented policies may have limited success, a more focused strategy is expected to clarify Hong Kong's role in the future.
