Democrats Advocate for Supreme Court Expansion to Depoliticize Judiciary

Democrats are renewing calls for the expansion of the Supreme Court in the wake of a recent redistricting ruling in Louisiana. Representative Ro Khanna (D-CA), in an interview on 'Meet the Press', stated that "we are not speaking up loudly enough, strongly enough against a court that is really rolling back civil rights." He suggested that combining term limits on the court with an expansion—where every president gets two appointees—would depoliticize the court and uphold voting rights and basic American democracy.

Broad Support for Court Reform Among Democrats, Criticized by Republicans

Beyond Representative Khanna, former Vice President Kamala Harris (D-CA) discussed the need for Supreme Court reform, including its expansion, during a 'Win With Black Women' YouTube event. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) also emphasized the necessity for "dramatic electoral reform, dramatic campaign finance reform, and dramatic judicial reform."

However, Fox News contributor Joe Concha criticized these proposals, asserting that expanding the court would not depoliticize it but rather serve as a quest for power for Democrats. He predicted that if Democrats gain full control, they would expand the Supreme Court, abolish the Electoral College, and admit D.C. and Puerto Rico as states to secure more Democratic senators, all under the guise of combating misinformation.
