Drone Crashes and Explodes in Latvian Lake
Last weekend, an unidentified unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) crashed and exploded in Dridzis Lake, approximately 17 kilometers from the Latvia-Belarus border. The drone's impact and explosion resulted in fish deaths in the lake, but no other damage or casualties were reported. Latvian police have recovered deformed fiberglass fragments from the lake, believed to be remnants of the drone.
Increase in Drone Incidents in Baltic States and Russian Accusations
This incident is the latest in a series of drone-related events that have been occurring in the Baltic states in recent weeks. Numerous Ukrainian-made long-range kamikaze drones have repeatedly violated the airspace of NATO and EU member countries. Russia accuses NATO members of implicitly allowing Ukraine to use the alliance's airspace to attack Russian northwestern oil export ports, particularly in Leningrad Oblast. The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) claimed that Ukraine is attempting to launch drones directly from the territories of the Baltic states.
