Gunman Killed After Opening Fire Near White House
A shooting incident occurred near the White House in Washington D.C., resulting in the death of a gunman. The U.S. Secret Service stated that the individual approached a checkpoint at 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, pulled a weapon from a bag, and began firing at Secret Service officers. Officers returned fire, striking the suspect who was transported to an area hospital where he later died. President Donald Trump was reportedly in the White House at the time of the incident.
Bystander Injured, Investigation Underway
During the exchange of fire, a bystander was also shot and hospitalized, though details on their condition were not provided. He added that the public would soon receive updates. A law enforcement official, speaking on condition of anonymity, identified the suspect as 21-year-old Isaia Best. Best had previously been arrested in July 2025 for attempting to enter a different White House checkpoint without authorization, claiming he was Jesus Christ and wanted to be arrested.
