Trump Offers Peace Deal to Iran While Issuing Warnings

Donald Trump, the US President, announced on May 20, 2026, his willingness to wait for a peace agreement with Iran. He stated that the US could wait "a few days" for an "ideal answer" but warned that if talks made no progress, the US was fully prepared to launch military strikes. President Trump emphasized that the current situation is at a "critical point" and could escalate rapidly. He reiterated that the US would never allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons.

Iran Warns of Escalation and States Negotiation Position

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps issued a statement warning that if Iran is attacked again, the "regional war" would expand beyond the region. Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, noted that there were signs indicating the US was preparing for a new wave of attacks. Conversely, President Pezeshkian stated that Tehran remains open to negotiations, but compelling Iran to surrender through coercion is "an illusion." Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, added that Iran is negotiating with "seriousness and sincerity" but harbors "strong and reasonable doubts about the US's performance."
