Israeli Forces Expand Attacks to Bekaa Valley, Targeting Hezbollah Supply Lines
Israeli Troops Advance into Western Bekaa Valley
Israeli forces have recently expanded their military operations beyond southern Lebanon into the western Bekaa Valley. This mirrors their deep incursion into the Bekaa Valley during the 1982 invasion of Lebanon, where they remained until 1985. The Litani River served as a border for Israel's 18-year occupation zone, often considered a natural defensive line. With the current targeting of Shia Muslim-majority villages, dozens of villages are now occupied, and residents are being displaced.
Residents Face Displacement and Economic Hardship
For Yousef and his wife, this is the second time they have been displaced by the Israeli military. Yousef describes Israel as an expansionist state that kills women and children, disregarding borders and extending its reach as far as its soldiers can go. He remembers the days when Israeli checkpoints controlled movement in the area and continues to believe in the path of resistance. Villages like Suhmor are now considered front lines, serving as important bases for Hezbollah to sustain its fight against Israel.
Uncertain Futures in Temporary Shelters
Hundreds of thousands of people who have fled their homes are now waiting in temporary shelters. Khadija recounts that her children lived in constant fear due to the Israeli air strikes. As a daily wage earner with no fixed income, she can no longer provide for them. After three months of living in a school, she states that all she has left is an uncertain future.
