UK warns against 'foreign intimidation' over Hong Kong-linked spying convictions
UK Summons Chinese Ambassador, Issues Warning
The United Kingdom has warned it will not tolerate attempts by foreign states to intimidate or harass individuals on its soil. This warning comes as Britain summoned China's ambassador after two men linked to Hong Kong's London trade office were convicted of spying on activists. The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) confirmed on Saturday that Ambassador Zheng Zeguang had been summoned the previous day following the British court's verdict in the national security case.
Convictions for Spying Allegations
The incident arose after two individuals, including Bill Yuen Chung-biu, a manager at the Hong Kong London trade office, were convicted of spying on Hong Kong democracy activists operating in the UK. Through this summons, the British government conveyed its firm stance on matters related to its national security to China, which is seen as a warning against foreign influence operations within the UK.
