MI5 Investigation and Details of Espionage Activities
The spy ring was uncovered after a prolonged investigation by MI5, leading to the arrests in May 2024. Bill Yuen, the London office manager, was found guilty of commissioning and paying private detectives to spy on dissidents critical of the Hong Kong government. The other accused, Peter Wai, a Royal Navy veteran, former London police constable, and immigration officer, was found guilty of using his position to gather personal information about Hong Kong activists in the UK.
