Hong Kong's Cyberport Approves Over 30 AI Grant Projects
AI Grant Scheme Supports Over 30 Projects
Karen Kwok, Director of Business Development at Cyberport, announced that between 30 and 40 projects have been approved for funding under the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Grant Scheme, which received HK$3 billion from the Hong Kong government. This scheme is designed to subsidize organizations in using Cyberport's supercomputing center to develop and run their AI projects. Eligible organizations can receive up to a 70% subsidy, with the goal of enabling them to utilize Hong Kong's most advanced computing power in the fastest and safest manner.
Financial Sector Data Security and AI Agent Support
Kwok also addressed concerns about data security in the financial sector's AI development. She highlighted that Cyberport's supercomputing center is locally maintained, allowing for secure isolation of data. Furthermore, Cyberport has collaborated with the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, Securities and Futures Commission, Insurance Authority, and Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority to launch a Generative AI Sandbox ('GenA.I. Sandbox++'). Recognizing that many organizations lack in-house R&D capabilities, Cyberport has partnered with the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer to provide pre-tested AI agents on a platform, allowing organizations to test and optimize them without having to develop their own AI agent projects from scratch.
