Australian Remanded on New Eat-and-Run Charges in Hong Kong
Fined for Eat-and-Run and Assault Charges
Samuel Anthony Monkivitch, a 50-year-old Australian national, was fined in Hong Kong for eat-and-run and assault charges. He pleaded guilty at Eastern Court on Thursday to three charges: two counts of failing to pay bills totaling HK$1,200 (US$255) at a restaurant and a massage parlor, and one count of common assault. The court fined him HK$3,000 and ordered him to use his bail to settle the outstanding payments.
Remanded for Fresh Eat-and-Run Charges
Just a day after being fined, Monkivitch was remanded in custody again in Hong Kong on fresh eat-and-run charges. He is accused of fleeing multiple restaurants without paying bills totaling over HK$2,000 (US$255). This incident led to his re-detention and he is now awaiting new legal proceedings. The case highlights the potential for repeat offenses by foreign nationals in Hong Kong.
