Initially, AI has often been adopted as an efficiency tool, helping educators save time and manage administrative tasks. However, this increased efficiency does not always translate into a changed learning experience for students.
Decades of research indicate that many educational technology innovations tend to sustain existing practices rather than truly transforming them. Generative AI, too, can improve workflows like quiz generation, but may leave the instructional model unchanged. Therefore, the guiding question for AI integration should not be 'How can I use AI?' but rather, 'How can AI help me create a transformative, student-centered learning experience?'
Shifting Paradigms for Student-Centered AI Use
Generative AI possesses the potential to be more than just a productivity tool in the classroom.
