On the 15th (local time), Elon Musk announced via his SNS X account the 'tapeout' (design completion) of Tesla's next-generation artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor chip, 'AI5'. Musk expressed his gratitude to Samsung Electronics and TSMC for their assistance in the chip's production. 'Tapeout' signifies the completion of the chip's physical design, ready to be handed over to a foundry, essentially meaning the design is finalized.
Development of Next-Gen Chips for Autonomous Driving and Robotics
The AI5 chip is expected to be integrated into Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) vehicles and humanoid robots. Musk also mentioned that, in addition to AI5, other new chips like AI6 and Dojo3 are under development. Previously, Musk had stated during a Q3 earnings conference call last year that both Samsung Electronics and TSMC would be involved in the AI5 production.
