Shooting Incident and Neutralization of Attackers near Istanbul Consulate
A shooting incident took place near the building housing the Israeli Consulate in Istanbul, Turkey. Three individuals were killed and two police officers sustained injuries in the incident. The Istanbul Governor announced that all three attackers have been neutralized. According to Turkish media, the attackers, armed with long guns and backpacks, were shot dead by Turkish security forces following a gun battle that reportedly lasted for about 10 minutes. Reuters reported that one person was seen covered in blood.
Investigation and Heightened Security
Following the shooting, a strong armed police presence has been maintained in the area near the consulate. Police are actively working to identify the attackers. The Israeli Foreign Ministry is also looking into the incident. It remains unclear at this time if the consulate itself was the direct target of the attack. Reports from the Jerusalem Post suggest that the Israeli Consulate has been closed for at least two years and may have been unstaffed.
