China's Qingming Festival Sees 6.77 Million Cross-Border Travelers, Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge Breaks Traffic Record
Cross-Border Travel During Qingming Festival
China's National Immigration Administration announced that during this year's Qingming Festival holiday, border inspection agencies nationwide processed a total of 6.779 million cross-border entries and exits for both Chinese and foreign nationals. The average daily number reached 2.26 million, marking a 9.1% increase compared to the same period last year. Specifically, cross-border movements by residents from Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan surged by 19.5% year-on-year to 3.291 million. Foreigner entries and exits also increased by 20.9% to 843,000, with 319,000 foreign nationals entering under visa-free policies, a significant 30.7% rise.
Port Clearance Efficiency and Bridge Traffic Record
To ensure efficient clearance during the Qingming Festival, the National Immigration Administration implemented various measures. These included timely publication of port traffic forecasts, establishment of dedicated lanes for the elderly and those requiring special assistance, and coordination with railway authorities to manage peak travel times. Notably, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge border inspection station recorded 29,800 vehicle passages yesterday, setting a new daily record since the bridge's opening.
