Artemis II Crew Requests Moon Crater Be Named After Late Carol
Carol Crater Naming Request
The Artemis II crew, currently on their lunar flyby mission, has made a poignant request to mission control. Sharing their journey as a close-knit astronaut family and the loss of a loved one, they proposed naming a moon crater Carol in memory of Commander Reid Wiseman's late wife. Artemis astronaut Jeremy Hansen noted that Carol was the mother of Katie and Ellie.
A 'Bright Spot' on the Moon Visible from Earth
Jeremy Hansen described the crater as a bright spot on the moon, located just northwest of the Glushko crater, on the near-side boundary. He added that at certain times during the moon's transit around Earth, this feature would be visible from our planet. The crew expressed their desire to honor their lost loved one by naming this significant lunar feature Carol.
